How To Organize Your Stuff

I get a lot of questions asking how I keep my tiny crammed apartment organized. The truth is if you’re living in a small space, organization is a must to keep you from going crazy. You won’t lose things this way or scramble to find that last minute item before rushing out the door. You have to know exactly where everything is by storing everything by categories. Here is a list of categories as an example..

Cupboards:

  • Pants/Skirts
  • Hijabs
  • Blouses
  • Long Sleeved Under-shirts or Plain “Bodies”
  • Dresses
  • Bags
  • Belts

Drawers:

  • Socks
  • Underwear
  • Pajamas
  • House Clothes
  • Sleeveless tops
  • T-Shirts
  • Track Pants
  • Boxers
  • Scarves

Top or out of reach cupboards can be used for storing winter clothes in large bags, these can be found at IKEA.

You can also use garbage bags to protect stored items from our dusty weather; don’t forget to label!

The best way to organize hijabs and scarves is to hang them on these clamp hangers, you can also find them at IKEA.. That way you can look through the colors with ease.

I bought these drawer organizers from True Value, I love them! I use them for organizing my socks, bathing suits, bandanas and undies..

Get plain colored boxes from IKEA (I prefer black) and store any extra items into categories; label them with a bold colored fabric marker.

Shoes must not be closed up in the cupboard with your clothes! Your shoes carry a lot of bacteria, God knows what we step on when we walk outside! Not to mention, with our hot weather, your clothes will end up smelling funky!! Store them outside on open racks facing towards you so you can see clearly each pair. I store my winter boots in boxes in my top cupboards.

I have a lot of makeup! So I have to organize everything or else I’ll go crazy.. I bought this makeup drawer organizer from IKEA which separates my lipsticks, eye makeup, brushes and everything and keeps them tidy and easy to reach.. No more rummaging through piles of makeup!

More organizing tips are coming your way in future posts!
