Fun With The Kids: Sugar Cookies

It’s good to get the children involved in the kitchen. Cooking is an important life skill to learn and is a great way to teach them safety. We have made it a tradition in my family to make these cookies together when we need some bonding time, and this recipe has been passed down from my mother. You can either just shape them into round cookies or have fun with animal cookie cutter shapes!

  • 5 sticks of butter, softened
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 5 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt

Cream the butter and sugar together until well blended.

Now add the eggs and blend well.

Now add the vanilla.

Add the baking powder, mix well.

Add the flour.

Blend well until you get a soft, fluffy consistency.

Shape the dough into a flattened ball and cover it with cling film, then refrigerate at least one hour.

Preheat the oven to 200 C.

Flour your counter and flatten your dough using a floured rolling pin.

Let your kids help by creating fun shapes.

Now lay them on a baking tray and bake them for 6 minutes only! No Longer!

The cookies will come out of the oven slightly soft; don’t worry, they will harden as they cool. Place them on a wire rack to cool down.

Yummy! Enjoy them with a nice cup of tea and milk!
