How To Make Dinner Rolls


These rolls are so simple and easy to make that you have no excuse not to make them everyday! You can use them for sandwiches, burgers (just sprinkle some sesame on top before baking) or just as they are with some butter.. Here’s the recipe:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 & 1/4 tsp instant dry yeast
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 3 egg yolks

First melt the butter with the milk in a saucepan.

Let the mixture cool until it reaches about 49 degrees Celsius, or if you don’t have a candy thermometer, it must be lukewarm, not hot or cold. Then sprinkle on the yeast (don’t mix!) and just leave it alone for 5 minutes.

After 5 minutes, add the rest of the ingredients. Flour, sugar, salt and yolks.

Using the hook attachment, turn your stand mixer on low and let mix until all the flour is incorporated. Then turn it to medium-high speed and knead the dough for 5-7 minutes. The dough should pull away from the sides of the bowl cleanly.

Now shape your dough into a ball.

Grease a large bowl with some oil (any oil) and grease your dough ball on the outside.  Place the dough in the bowl and cover it tightly with plastic wrap.

Now put the bowl in a warm place with no drafts, preferably a warm oven, just be sure it’s turned off! Let it rise for an hour, it should double in size.

Punch down your dough to deflate it, then cut it into 12 equal pieces and shape into smooth round balls by tucking the dough in the bottom.

Grease a 9 x 13 inch baking pan with butter and arrange your dough balls inside.

Now cover the baking pan with plastic wrap and a damp towel and leave it to rise for another hour in a warm place.

Bake the rolls at 190 degrees Celsius for 20 minutes.

Brush them immediately with melted butter.

To keep them fresh longer, store them in these bread bags from “Home Center” which claim to extend their expiry date!
